1. The situation
SOURCE Drylands History — Kudamat has recovered one of nine soul shards. He is
siphoning power through the essentia veins, raising aberrations across the desert, and
searching for the remaining eight. Each shard he reaches gets a colossus set over it.
SOURCE The first quake tore a fissure through the center street of Wyllin's Gulch. The town
read it as an earthquake.
SOURCE Player Principles — the party has no time to waste.
2. Shards and colossi
Tally and per-shard detail: The Nine Shards.
Recovered by Kudamat: 1 of 9. Colossi standing: 1 — The First Colossus, outside Wyllin's Gulch, guarding the recovered shard with droves of aberrations.
OPEN Where the other eight riders buried their shards, and in what order Kudamat reaches them.
3. Who is moving
- Preacher Rayos — preaching the prophecy in Wyllin's Gulch, more popular by the day.
SOURCE - The Harlan Family — working to stop essentia production; want the factories off the Twin Turtles.
SOURCE - Iron Tusk Corp — holds the mine at The Iron Kettle; the smiths' union holds the town.
SOURCE - The Drylands Law — sheriffs paid to protect mines and manufacturing.

OPEN Which of these the party is already tangled with. Answers at Session 0.
4. The posse
Temperance Blacksand — Warborne Cinderkin guardian, out of the black-sand beach at
The Cinderline. SET
SET They were formed at the same hour the first colossus rose, half a
desert away, and carry fine grains of essentia in their body. They do not use it.
OPEN What made them, and whether the answer is Kudamat, the
New Gods, or neither. They do not know; nobody has told them.
OPEN Why a Cinderkin formed on a beach whose essentia deposit has been played out for years.
5. The table
OPEN Remaining player count, characters, and the outpost the campaign opens in.
OPEN Whether any other player wants a character from Godfell Mountain itself — blighted ground,
richest essentia, and the one community the frame calls out as bold enough to live there.
